Secular Music, Not Fully Unholy As Religious Fanatics Paint It

Religious fanatics all over the world despise worldly circular music. Judgmental people. People who are quick to judge that a song is worldly or unholy simply because the lyrics of such songs describes the way a man woes a woman. Or because the artist or group of musicians are atheists, badly or roughly dressed. What defines good music? Good music isn’t unholy even if it doesn’t contain the name “Jesus” in its lyric. Good music is one whose lyrics or instrumental doesn’t influence one into committing evil. It’s common knowledge that music can be very influential.

In the Holy Bible, two books were dedicated to music, Songs of Solomon and Psalms. The Book of Psalms contains hymns of praise, thanksgiving, worship, faith, security, divine intervention and lots more. Songs of Solomon on the other hand, is a book that contains love songs written by King Solomon, the only King who had the most wives and concubines. The explicit lyrics used in most verses in the Songs of Solomon describe the expression of love.

Religion has blinded many people. They interpret things carnal into spiritual things wrongly. It’s never been a crime to listen to good music. I express this thought based on the opinion that when Jesus attended the wedding at Canaan where he performed his first miracle of changing water into wine, music was played here. Though the bible doesn’t specify the genre of music played during the wedding or whether music was played at all but its common sense to know that every celebration is a gateway for music and dancing.

I personally listen to songs that aren’t listed under the gospel genre. What I simply do is to screen the lyrics of the song to check for profanity, immorality, negative message, blasphemy or slander. If it doesn’t contain such objects then it’s good for my ears depending on my mood. I also check the instrumental. Different beats influence different moods. Some songs can put you to sleep; others are good for exercising while many more can help you concentrate. Remember that most secular music contains clever rhyme-schemes, varied use of refrain-lines or words, and different metric patterns so watch out. If you can’t screen it, leave it. Seeing The “Explicit Content” logo tagged to a song alone is enough to tell to back off as the lyrics of such songs will most likely pollute your mind.

sexually explicit

In summary, good music is good music, gospel or not. It’s what it makes you do or influences you to do that matter can this can be checked and controlled. Don’t act too holy in your ways and lose the essence.

A Perfect Love Movie: Kal Ho Naa Ho

Movie Recommendation: Kal ho naa ho

I don’t know how or why I forgot to post this on St. Valentine’s day. But if you are still in that love mood and also love reading movie subtitles, I’d recommend that you watch this perfect love movie “Kal ho naa ho

kal_ho_naa_ho movie poster

It’s a Bollywood movie – Indian- shot in New York. It’s also a classic. I’m not going to review or spill the storyline or plot of the movie so just rent or buy it, watch it and tell me what you think.

St. Valentine’s Day: Love, Pain, Sacrifice

Sometimes, it’s hard to truly understand what love means. I woke up this morning and spent 1 hour 54 minutes watching a movie The Passion of the Christ (Full Screen Edition) I watched how one innocent man was arrested, scourged, mocked, spat on, bruised, hung and killed on a cross. How severe his wounds were, the price he paid just because His Father, Your Father and mine loves us much. His love for became more painful when nails were driven through his wrists and feet. What greater love can be compared to that which The Father and The Son showed us as He gave His only begotten son so that whosoever believes in Him shall no perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Unconditional love you may call it. Where the condition in unCONDITIONal is that we love and believe in Him as much as He loves us. Look inward and ask yourself “How many of my friends can die for me?” yet Jesus did. Not simply by a gun, a sword or even a fatal accident but through a very painful and extruciating death sentence. A remarkable sacrifice that cleanses us all from sin.

Are you still thinking that because noone has sent you an email or text message saying “Happy St.Valentine’s Day” hence you aren’t loved? Scratch that thought because against all odds, Jesus Loves You.

Happy St. Valentine Day!

What Does St. Valentine’s Day Mean To You?

St. Valentine’s Day is a day marked out for lovers. The event involves the exchange of gifts between lovers, a show of kind and romantic gestures, candle lit dinner and the event mostly ends up with sex among couples. Red is usually the colour of the day and that’s how the world describes it.

In my own opinion, “Every day is Lover’s Day”. The greatest commandment lies in the Bible reading Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” So we are meant to Love God above all things followed by our neighbors. Our neighbors being every individual we meet in our lives daily.

February 14, St. Valentine’s Day on the other hand, is a special day set out to openly express your love to one special person in your life. Every day for everyone, one special day for that special someone. Most often, people take St. Valentine’s day to be a purely romantic event. The event of St. Valentine’s day however is not restricted to a particular age bracket. Kids can have their parents as their Valentine or a special friend or teacher at school. It’s just an event for an open expression of love. Love here isn’t defined as lust but a pure special feeling for someone.

The Book of 1st John teaches a lot about love . 1st John 4:7-21 (NIV) talks about God’s Love and Ours…

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Last year, I celebrated St. Valentine’s day in church with my friends and it was fun as a get together party was organized for the brethren. In my heart, I took Jesus to be my Valentine. I gave Him my heart and he gave me His love. It’s as simple as that. You can use St. Valentine’s day as a day to reevaluate and re-validate your love for Jesus Christ.

happy Valentine

For couples, it’s usually noticed that a husband’s Valentine is his wife and vice versa. While taking a shower this morning, I had a single yet complex thought. What if a man’s Valentine is someone else; won’t there be a conflict on the morning of the 15th? If yes, why is it so? Couples who are always together, sleep on the same bed for 365 days every year. If these couples express their love to each other every day then there shouldn’t be a problem if a wife decides that her younger brother will be her Valentine or a husband takes his widowed mother as his Valentine. Love is Pure and shouldn’t result to envy or jealousy.

If you have no special person in your life to celebrate the day with, do good to visit the motherless babies’ home, prisons or hospital. You will find lots of people there who yearn for the tiniest bit of love. Spread the Love, Spread the Faith.

I will stop here with these questions, feel free to answer them openly or in your hearts.

  • What does St. Valentine’s day mean to you?
  • What special things do you do on St. Valentine’s day?
  • Who will be your Valentine cupid this year?
  • Are you still thinking about the perfect gift to buy?

They Are Doing It, So What? 6 Things You Shouldn’t Rush Into

Don’t be intimidated by what your mates or peers are doing. Either because you feel you ought to be doing it or that you are being pressured to do it by your folks or the community.

1. So They Are Hanging Out, Kissing, Cuddling And Having Sex.

Why rush to do the same when after your marriage ceremony you’ll have the rest of your life to hang out, kiss, cuddle, hug and have sex with your spouse. Mark Gringor said during his “Laugh Your Way Into Marriage” seminar in 2005 that it’s an error to get involve in sex or be promiscuous before marriage because we imprint during first time experiences hence we go into relationships with great sexual expectations. Secondly, couples who have sex before marriage do not perform as good as couples who got married as virgins.

2. So They Are Getting Married.

It’s their time. Don’t feel pressured into getting married immediately too. After all, the Bible says it’s better if possible for a man to stay unmarried. Notwithstanding, at the right time and season, when you are ready, you will know. Don’t rush in too quickly, feel bored and attempt to rush out like most Hollywood celebrities.

3. So They Just Got Married And A Baby Is Already On The Way.

Funny enough the blessing of a fruitful marriage is having children. Four months after marriage, a couple produces a live baby that isn’t premature. Cause: Premarital sex. So what instigated the marriage was the pregnancy in the first place. Anyway, remember that not every fresh marriage needs a child spontaneously. If you fail to plan before bringing a child into the world, you’ll have problems raising that child.
If you are still expecting a baby in your own marriage, don’t give up. Your time will come and know that it’s never too late. Abraham, God’s faithful servant and friend had Isaac, his son when he was 99 years old.
I know the times are different now but God still remains faithful.

4. So He Just Got Promoted.

Don’t allow your thoughts to lead you to sin. The sin of envy is very common when it comes in tune with comparison. What did you want before, not your friend not to progress? Just keep doing your best at work and some day you will also get a promotion and salary raise.

5. So He Just Bought A New Car.

His work probably needs it. He probably got on loan. If you need a car in your life or business, work hard. Hard work, determination and diligence pay off on the long run. In some aspects of life, owning a car is insignificant. It will only drain your pocket when expenses arise from repairs and maintenance. One simple policy that I follow is that if an asset can’t generate funds for its maintenance it’s just a liability.

6. So They Just Moved Into A New House.

Do you know that not every rich man on earth lives in his own house? Some jobs require that you move up and down the globe. Some people hardly settle in a location for more than six months. Buying a house in all the locations you visit is pointless. Again, it you need a house, work hard and save enough money to buy a plot of land first. As time goes on you’ll have enough money to start the foundation before building the house to your specification.

There is time for everything, a time to sow and a time to reap.

Jesus Worked, Jesus Walked

Many pastors, priests and ministers have resigned from their jobs and concentrated on preaching only the Word of God with full dependence on God and the seeds sown by their members. I was in church today and I was inspired by this thought “Jesus Worked, Jesus Walked”. I want to share my thoughts about the ministers of the Church today and the ministry of Jesus Christ, our mentor, teacher and leader. The Bible, as you know didn’t record the activities of Jesus Christ from age 13 to age 30. The account seized after He was reported missing by his parents and found in the temple and continued when He went to be baptized and fasted.

Based on the knowledge I have of the Holy Scriptures, I’d say Jesus was busy working in Joseph’s carpentry workshop, perfected his skills and started a trade of his own. The son of a carpenter, he was called. While doing the upholstery business, he must have had clients who were Pharisees, Sadducees, Jews and Gentiles. While watching the movie “King of Kings (1961)“, a particular scene showed where Mary asked her son Jesus when he will finish working on the chair she requested. Portions of the gospel also showed us that Jesus paid his taxes. Jesus being our teacher was known to provide food for his followers and the congregation, he even went as far as washing the feet of his disciples. Jesus in all his majesty also visited sinners and dined with them thereby converting them. The spirit is pride is never found in Christ rather he diligent, faithful, caring and hardworking.

Isn’t He “Jesus” the same wise teacher who sent his disciples out to preach and instructed them not to receive any gifts under their belts?

Why then do pastors and ministry leaders of our time fully depend on the tithes and offerings of their followers? The offerings and tithes collected by a church are supposed to provide for the church and its members alongside new believers who need food and shelter. I’m not in any way saying that a pastor shouldn’t take care of himself from the offerings collected but the point I am trying to make is that pastor or church leaders should learn to work actively and earn a living instead of at least partly depending on the God given talents.

Pastors who were professionally trained as architects, engineers, doctors, surgeons, etc tend to give up their trade on go into full gospel ministry before they clock age 45. I am by no means saying it is entirely wrong because it all depends on the strength of one’s ministry. Practically speaking, there comes a time when a pastor gets appointed as a General Overseer, Bishop or even a Reverend and the job becomes very tasking. It will be very understanding to partially or fully quit one’s first profession in order to fully handle ministerial duties. But when one’s just starting out as a pastor “a very young pastor” if I may add, I personally deem it wrong for him to quit his first profession or current job and fully rely on the tithes and offerings of his very few followers. I am going to support my position on the matter with the following reasons.

  1. It shows laxity on a pastor’s part. How can he teach his members to work very hard at 25 if he quit his job “if he had any” all in the name of starting up a ministry. Apostle Paul was a Roman lawyer whose job was to persecute Christians before he got saved yet he used his experience at court to carry out his ministerial duties. During that time, Apostle Paul was hardworking as he worked tirelessly to persecute as many Christians as possible.
  1. The pastor will most definitely lack natural experience. It’s easier to relate with people when you have passed through an actual life experience regarding the subject topic. How can an unmarried pastor advice a married couple on marital issues when he isn’t married. Oh yes, God can give him the wisdom to settle marital matters but come on “How many men of God actually hear God’s voice these days?” when many preachers have turned their church into a business place.
  1. The pastor will struggle financially and often mismanage funds because he has no little or no experience of how hard it is to make money. Since he gets his money from church offerings and solely relies on it, he will hardly ever know what the common man or church member goes through to make money. How can he then preach our financial breakthrough when he doesn’t even understand the meaning of the “Parable of the Talents”.
  1. The pastor’s sermons may be biased and corrupted. Since he solely relies on the gifts of church members, he is likely to only preach what is appealing to his members so as to keep them entertained and comfortable thereby covering the truth.

There are so many other reasons why it is important for pastors to work or have a job before they venture into or during their ministry but for the sake of length I’ll stop here with this last words. I know that being a Pastor is also a very tasking job but I hope to see what I mean through my eyes. After all,  the disciples of Jesus all had a job before Jesus called them and that’s when they started their work.

February: Month Of Sowing

It almost seems as if I have left my blog for a year though it’s barely six days. During which, I have carried out so many activities which include working out a feasibility study of a newly proposed business, setting up a business bank account, spotting a good location with moderate traffic and so on. Besides that I carried out some free counselling sessions on leadership, relationship, business and holiness during which I was advised to start holding seminars. As if that is not enough, I started a new study on “Sin” which has added up to my list of books to write on this year.

I personally tagged the month of February as ‘My Month Of Sowing‘. January was my month of ploughing.

What about you?

What have you been up to?

What’s your personal theme for the month?

The Encounter

I was going to write on a very different topic in a new category then something spectacular happened. My thoughts got spun. Reality kicked in. Lots of questions got answered. My understanding widened. My wisdom expanded. My knowledge got renewed. What happened…?

I had an Encounter. Not personally though I had something similarly last Easter Sunday and a few months. But this is brand new. While watching the movie “THE ENCOUNTER”, my eyes and heart got opened to many things.

The film, “The Encounter”, tells a story about five persons who all met in a diner due to stormy weather at night. Behold, the owner of the diner was Jesus. Mere words can’t express the activities that took place in the diner. But the film is a MUST watch. It teaches you that  Christianity isn’t a religion rather a way of life. Teaches you that God answers every prayer through faith. The film let’s you reflect on the past to see how loving and caring God is to us, even through trying times.the encounter 1

“The Encounter: Lost Paradise” is the sequel to the first. The first movie involve word action while this one includes some actual action with guns fired. It tells the story about a heroin seller married to a heroin addicts who both met Jesus and got saved alongside other characters.

the encounter 2

Like I said, mere words can’t describe the lessons learnt from the film. If you are emotional, at least a drop of tear will roll down your cheek. However, one sentence  that best describes the film is “Jesus loves you more than you can ever imagine.

And Truth Saved The Day

You raised me up to speak the truth.
You taught me most of all I know today.
Scolded me each time I took the wrong way.
Now you feel betrayed and drive me away.

In your native tongue you pray each day.
Though I never understand the words you say,
Watching you I learnt to kneel and pray.
Now you act like you wasted each day.

Some memories will never fade away.
How you cared for me by cleaning my wounds with warm water
Served me meals with large lumps of meat and a cup of cold water.
Tell me “why won’t I pray for you at God’s altar?”

I will always love you though you think otherwise.
I wish you could see things through my own eyes.
You always told  me to “shine my eyes”
Now you let tears flow down yours which almost makes cry.

The truth I know is what I say
It’s bitter now I guess you’d say
In almost no time, you’ll smile and say
“Thanks son, you saved the day”

Army Wives Are Not Just Ordinary Women

Army Wives are not just ordinary women. They are very strong figures that every one should look up to. A young lady falls in love with a promising young man who had enrolled into the army before their acquaintance. She likes him so much that she agrees to his marriage proposal without any doubt in her heart. The young couples get married and before the honeymoon is completed, the young soldier gets a call. He’s been selected for his first tour (war). They make love for the last time before “the tour” pending his return.

Marriage of the soldier

The young soldier lies on the battle ground, gun in his hand. Fully dressed in camouflage capped with a bulletproof helmet. On his back is a backpack filled with ammunitions, several magazines, food rations and some bottles of a water. His life is in his hand. Shoot or be shot. Take cover or get hit. Walk smartly or step on a mine. Still, he is not a boss of himself as he is under the command of his squad leader.
Pretty young Mrs., sits back at home. Turns on the news, view the report of the ungoing war. Her heart leaves her chest, pumping so hard. Her sweat pores open up and out of her skin goshing heavy salty liquids. Pregnant? Oh yes she is, little baby soldier is still a festus and doesn’t even know whether his father will be alive when he is being pushed out through his mother’s vulva in the labour room.

All Hell seems let lose, until her phone rings.

“Hello babe” says a man with a bass man. She barely recognizes his voice. The young man has fully matured into grown man with a bass voice. After choking on dust and grass while crouching and lying down repeated on the battle ground. “Hello”, she replies sweating profusely. “It’s me, babe”, he returns. She breathes heavily in a way that her husband could feel the hot air from his phone receiver. What a sign of relief she feels after hearing that husky voice. Her next words “baby, are you okay?”

Soldier calling wife

This realistic sort of conversation repeats itself each time he goes to war with a theatrical thrill. It gets weird when a soldier begins to love the warfront more than his family. It is ideal that a man should love his job but when a he gets married that love should be split and a greater part should be showered on his family. There is a popular saying that “Soldier come, Soldier go but the barrack remains”. So why kill yourself when the duty can be shared.

Now my questions goes out to everyone;

  • How would you feel if you grew up refering to your dad as “uncle” because he was hardly ever due to his war trips?
  • How would you feel as a newly wedded wife if you only sleep on the same bed with your husband for a few weeks every year?
  • How would you feel if you have to forcefully build memories of your relationship since he is hardly ever around?
  • How would you feel if you hear the sound of gunshots in the background when speaking to your husband on the phone and suddenly the line get disconnected?

Soldier returns to wife

There are so many questions to ask but I’ll like to stop here. To throw more light on the situation, view the movie “American Sniper” and study the life of Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) and his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller).

While watching “American Sniper”, I had to pause the clip and check my B.P.

How Do You Start Your Day?: 5 Powerful Ways To Start An Effective Day

2015, My Year of Supernatural Encounter.  As you are reading this, you’re probably at work right now or your business place. Dusting your goods, desk, chair, PC and POS machine so let me quickly ask you this

“How do you start your day?”

Every creature starts its day differently. No two breathing beings wake up in the same exact pattern and stretching gesture. However, the way you start your day affects the way the day will flow.
I started my day in a perfect way as I woke up before my morning alarm.

  • Gave thanks, praising and worshiping my Maker and studied the Holy scriptures.
  • Brushed my teeth and washed my face. Put on my canvas and went out to jog.

During my early morning jogging routine I was inspired to make a video for you. Unfortunately, I won’t be sharing the video message I made for you today because of the resolution and poor sound quality. It was inspired and not scripted. However, I’ll write my thoughts in this post and make a better video next time.
When I returned home, I did my chores, repaired breakfast, took a shower, ate and prayed before leaving to my workplace…
Now seating and typing this post on the office desk, I will comment that if your day started in almost the same pattern as mine then you are on the right track.
Having made that video, I didn’t plan to write a long post so in summary, I will give you 5 powerful things you should do everyday and at least every Monday of the week.

1.   Wake Up Early Every Morning.

Try to wake up before 5am. There is too little time in a day to spend it all sleeping. This can be achieved by sleeping. I sleep averagely by 1:30am and rise up smartly by 5am. There are just 24 hours in a day of which I’m not too happy about because it’s not enough to finish all the things I have planned. Hence, learn and practice effective time management and daily planning. You can try using an alarm, an hourly and daily planner. (you can also get an app that handles all these)

2. Pray Fervently and Fast At Least Once A Week

Prayer is the effective communication between a man and his creator. A man is an entity defined by the mind, body and spirit. In my own words, when a man prays, his mind prepares the speech entailing the greetings, thanksgivings, praises, worships, messages and requests. The speech from the mind is then transferred to the body and spoken through his mouth “confession”. The spoken prayer is finally received by the spirit, who converts the prayer into the spiritual language, packages it and delivers it to an angelic messenger of God who in turn guides it against the forces of darkness in the spirit realm and delivers it safely to God.

My best venue for prayer is my bathroom. While bathing I say “see me the way You created me without any clothes or adornments, Lord I adore you. Bless me the way you blessed the house of David. Wisdom is all I seek…”

Fasting on the other hand starves the flesh, leaving the body weak in preparation for the feeding of the spirit man with spiritual food. When the body weakens the spirit gets activated no wonder why it’s said that spirits walk around at night when the physical man is tired and fast asleep.

A man who prays 30 mins a day but avoids sin will get quicker answers to his prayer than a man who prays 5 hours a day but sins.

3. Sing Praise and Worship Songs That Glorify Your Maker.

The Good Lord loves music. David sang to glorify God and He blessed him. Singing praises to the Lord is a great way to worship Him. It is even more appreciated than prayer. This is because prayer is more like a conversation in which most people ask for their needs. But when we sing praises to God, we worship and exalt Him.

If music is said to be the food for the soul, won’ t it be right to say that singing praises to God also serves as enjoyment to God. As a child. I was taught that music makes God stand from His throne. If your praise can make God stand, tell me why He won’t listen to your prayers.

Personally I love singing in the bathroom because the walls give my music a studio effect. King David danced till his clothes fell off and God was pleased.
